The Great American Eclipse

On April 8th 2024 a total solar eclipse crossed across the United States, with 15 states being in the path of totality!

I traveled down to the small town of Gosport Indiana to Harvest Moon Winery and Farms, where I camped out 2 nights prior. The first Night was beautiful with clear skies and a clear view of the planets and stars! Unfortunately the 2nd night saw thunderstorms and doubt weather or not the eclipse was going to be blocked by overcast skies.

Fortunately, the morning of the 8th saw clear skies once again and myself and people from more than 20 states that had traveled to this winery were able to whitens the eclipse and almost 4 minutes of totality!

For those of you that saw totality and noticed the red flame (as seen in the picture below), this is what is known as a solar prominence! These "are large, bright loops of plasma anchored to the Sun's surface in the photosphere" - IndyStar. While im not positive, the one seen at the bottom is almost 4.5 Earths "Tall" and 4.5 Earths "Wide" (this is an approximation not exact). For context, this is comparable to the size difference between a baseball (or tennis ball) and a basketball (or soccer ball)!

Additional Readings on the eclipse can be found here through this: NASA article!

Additional pictures can be found in the Gallery, and photos for purchase (prints and wallpapers) will be made available soon!

Massive Thank You to Bill who is the owner of Harvest Moon Winery as well as his team for putting on a great event. While Rain did affect some of the festivities on the night of the 7th, they did a great job of creating a fun and exciting event for everyone that attended! (-Bill and Harvest Moon did not sponsor or advertise my trip in any way, all accommodations were played myself)

Another shoutout to everyone that attended and stopped by to check out the telescope I had setup! It was a pleasure to speak with all of you and I hope you had a great time.
